What to bring if you are camping
Here are a few tips to survive your camping stay in the freezing cold nights and the not so cool days of Splendour. Every year the weather differs from the year before, so you honestly need to plan for rain, hail or shine or even the possibility that your tent may become submerged in a pool of sludge/mud. Look between me and you, if this happens there is no going back and there will not be a great deal you can do other then try and find a fellow sleeping buddy in a whole better situation than yours or just embrace it and come to terms that being salty about the mud will get you nowhereā¦so just embrace it and get litā¦!
Tents/ Swag /Van/RV - Before entering those festival grounds, please make sure your tent is sturdy and weather proof because rebuilding your tent at 2am in the pouring rain is not ideal. RV world is for all those wanting to live it up a little and decide that the van/RV sleep option is for them.
Gazebo/shade - The sun can get very warm during the day and sitting in the rain is not fun, so definitely bring some sort of shade for your campsite.
Table & chairs - Get your camping chairs ready for those little tooshies of yours and a fold out table is the perfect substitute for a portable bar to mix your pre drinks (obviously speaking strictly soft drinks as per splendour rules:P)
Blanket/pillows/back up blanket ā After a long day and night of party party, the excitement of getting back to your campsite and into your warm tent is indescribable⦠but imagine this, showered, in warm clothes and ready for bed, but wait, some scoundrel has stolen all your blanketsā¦ā¦yes, yes this is legit ⦠so from this little experience trust me take a spare blanket, just in case.
Solar lights/fairly lights/torch ā Lighting is necessary - you donāt want to waste all your phone battery on your phones flashlight. Please also note to self, be careful when walking through tent city to not accidentally trip over and pull down some poor buggerās tent.
Identifiable object (e.g. fairy lights on a pole of a flag) to make your campsite stand out - Trying to find your campsite at night can be difficult at times, especially if you have no sense of direction or just feeling a little wok eyed.
Mirror - This is a necessity to get your beautiful self all glam for the day and seriously who really wants to be fighting over the cars side mirrors. From sister to sister keep that shit hidden as it is a prohibited item.
Ear plugs ā Be prepared for never ending doof, so if shut eye is something you like, definitely take yourself a set of ear plugs.
Food - There are endless food options at splendour, from in the festival to the food set ups situated around the camping grounds. Trust me save your pennies and just treat yourself, you can never go past a Splendour food journey. If you do bring your own food, make sure it is non-perishable. Ice is available to fill up your eskies⦠but there is a limit on how many you can buy daily, so donāt bring too much food that needs to remain cold. Obviously for those rich bitches, solar powered eskies are the way to go. And of course, donāt forget plenty of snacks for when you have the munchies.
Portable speaker - To party all day and night and listen to the jās of course. This will also come in handy when you want to block out your Splendour neighbours with questionable choices in tunes.
Towels - Take more than 1 towel, trust me you will need it !
Toiletry bag/clothes bag - Make sure you take some kind of carrying apparatus to hold your belongings when showering - it is a whole lot of wetness and mud in those showers, you want to come out cleaner then when you entered. Also, do not forget your thongs for the shower - you DO NOT want a dreaded foot fungus.
Wet wipes ā Wet wipes will be your saviour, for both in and out of the festival.. bring many packets, they come in handy for everything⦠they are even a great morning shower :P when you couldnāt be bothered lining up for hours to have an ice cold shower.
Practical/warm clothes - Obviously we know that all you glam fairies will have your outfits planned from Day 1 to Day 3, most likely already, but sometimes your splendour outfits will not make the cut for a freezing cold night. Jacket, boots, long thick socks and beanie are all on my essential list for tackling the cold nights at Splendour. I will also note that after a long day, sometimes all you want is to be comfort/warmth plus⦠we have definitely been known to rock our tracksuits for a good night of boogying.
Poncho/Raincoat - For obvious reasons, dahh⦠canāt be getting that hair ruined sis.. or hyperthermia, whatever you think is more important :P
Gumboots - So think about this, Kmart sells gumboots for $15ā¦. Gumboots go for approximately around the $60 mark at Splendour.. I know what I would choose babys.. get in early, donāt be lazy, go get your gumboots now (if you havenāt already). If it rains, it bloody pours and let me tell you the mud can be a killer so they are a must! On the plus side if you do have to treck the weekend in your boots, you will be coming home with some smoking hot legs, it is definitely a work out and a half.
Hydrolyte/Gatorade ā So you can back it up!
